Master of Magic
Ok someone mentioned that they wanted to talk about some of the games that hooked most people to strat games so I thought it would be nice with at least one topic about it.
Soooooo..... Anyone else think that the High men Paladins need a nerf

forget high men paladins, Torin needs a major nerf. If i ever managed to get him out, the game was over.

heh true, and if I don´t remember wrong he kept all his exp when you resurrected him.
He´d take a great wyrm and twirl it around his finger after you put some major artefacts on him *ah* Sweet memories. It´s nice to see how fantasy strat/rts keep evolving, I´ll try to remember all the games that led up to kohan (correct me if I miss anyone, writing from the top of my head) Master of magic -Warcraft -Heroes of Might and magic I -Lords of Magic -Warcraft II -Homm II -Age of Empires -Age of Wonders -Homm III -Age of Empires II (-Shadow of the horned rat/Dark Omen) -Majesty Hmmmm anyone else notice a tendency among the names.... ![]() Mmmmmm still have my worn out box of Mom in arms reach from here

Heh, i envy you - i lost my disks for mom a long time ago (probably loaned them out to someone and never got it returned). I really miss the quality manuals they had back in the day - i remember like a good solid main manual and a reference that had all the spells and some other stuff that was like half as big.
Ah well, just got civ3 - hopefully it can bring back some of that old school magic. Laz

Luckely MOM is abandonedware, so it can be downloaded from the net. I found it a year ago and lucky me: the game was fully playable on my 1,1 Ghertz Atlon.! Still a great game!
As for manuals: Wizardry 8 will be released with a comprehensive 125 page manual, like back in the old days! If you wan't old school magic, try that one. The demo is released and looking great.....greetz, Thal [ 11-01-2001: Message edited by: Thalinth ]

Hey lets not forget Warlords!!! I loved MoM but unfortuntely base ram sort of disappeared when true Dos did lol. I remember having to use memmaker to get that crucial few k I was short by!!
Warlords I did on the Amiga, MoM on the PC. The only other one that went close was age of Wonders. I had Masters of Magic but was very disappointed. I was always more into turn based but this Kohan is looking good even though I've only got the Demo at the mo. |

Check out Dominions - www.illwinter.com
Indy game design, so it's rough around the edges, but it reminds me of MoM in many ways. [ 11-12-2001: Message edited by: Kell ]

---------------------------------------------------------
Version 1.3.1 Corrections and Enhancements --------------------------------------------------------- - You are awarded 5 fame points for defeating an enemy wizard. This is in addition to fame points gained for defeating his fortress city. Note: you are not notified of this award in the game. - An asterisk that follows a hero's special ability indicates a super rating. - Non-corporeal units are unable to use the enchanted road bonus. The enchanted road bonus does not apply in combat. - You will be rewarded with either one or two spells for banishing an enemy wizard. However, both of you must have similar types of magic for this to happen. If, for example, you have only death magic and your vanquished foe has only life magic, don't expect any spell discoveries. - Corruption now eliminates food production in the affected terrain. - Volcanoes have a 2% chance to revert to mountains each turn (with a 5% chance of providing a mineral vein). - The number of rebellions arising from Armageddon and Great Wasting have been substantially reduced (not entirely eliminated). - A unit with an immunity to a special attack is no longer immune to all other attacks made by a unit that had that special attack. - Units with magic immunity are no longer invulnerable to all fantastic creatures. - Djinns now have wind walking. huuuuu, i think it's the readme of MoM 1.31, not Kohan 1.31
