PC Patch Status- Updated 11/17/09

The patch for the Steam version of Section 8 is now available!

As many of you are already aware, the first PC patch for Section 8 has gone live. We are currently tracking a couple issues as noted in our forums, including the following:

• For digitally distributed copies of Section 8 (Steam, Direct2Drive), some users may be experiencing an error message prompting them to insert a DVD. We are currently working with these retailers so users who purchased the game digitally may receive the proper update to address this issue.
• Users with Windows XP may receive an error message stating "Can't download the update. Make sure that you are connected to the Internet. If the problem persists, go to www.gamesforwindows.com/support," after attempting to apply the patch through GfWL. This issue can be resolved by viewing and following the instructions at Microsoft Support.

Server hosting partners who are experiencing issues hosting a dedicated server should open a support ticket with TimeGate Support and our support team will be happy to work with you to resolve the issue.

Please note that official PC servers are currently in the process of being updated for the patch and will be available by the end of day today (CST).

When will the fix for the digital downloads happen?

I followed a link directing me to a much less error prone way to download and apply the patch, which brought me here.... This isn't giving any further direction.

i had the "Can't download the update. Make sure that you are connected to the Internet" problem and i am running Vista. the fix on that page is only for XP.

I have exactly the same install error with this patch. It fails at 51%. i'm running vista.

Same issue here..

First error stats "Missing or Invalid Registry/INI entry"

Second error stats "Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match" -- 51% update

Ok start off by saying all day yesterday I tried fiddling around with this crap. I had 2 games with patch updates from GFWL.
GTA 4 and Section 8. All day long. Same thing Cannot download update (this was same error for both games) check to make sure your connected to internet. This started at 10am pst and continued till around 6pm pst. On both games the same thing cannot download update check internet. I tried this all day even completely Disabled AV and Firewall to still get the same messege from the update. So I am sorry it is on Your side. Finally at 6pm I was able to complete the Update for GTA 4. Then funny thing I tried section 8 update atleast 4 more times with same set up before It finally worked and downloaded it without any changes to my pc. Then it restarts and tries to apply patch to steam version. Little did I know this patch is not working with Steam at that point. Try starting S8 again guess what failed download. Still no changes to pc. CLose down try 2 more times to no avail still getting messege cannot download update. Try 3rd time low and behold it downloads it. Again no PC change. But still all wasted time. Why because this patch still does not install for a Digital Copy. Yeah this is long winded and redundant!! However, so was messing around with everything under the sun trying to get this thing installed being redirected from here to there both sides shifting blame GFWL says if its a update for the game contact the game provider and then you got the game provider telling us to go to MS and change port settings redirect your Network traffic and a bunch of Horsecrap. Again we paid 50 dollars for this game to go 2 months of bugs playing the game on a promise of a patch. Now we cant play if we have a digital copy. Because what it wasnt tested at all for a Digital copy??? That would be the only explanation that it wasn't even considered or tested. From what I see there is quite a large community of us that like the ease of a digital download. And we were and have been completely blocked out for 2 days now. 49.98 Wal-mart Next month it will be in the bin for 19.98 still over priced for what we got.

Wow I never noticed how crazy gamers can be. Whenever there's a technical difficulty with a game I enjoy I just go, "Oh, ok. I'll play when they fix it." Because I figure, **** happens.


From reading these forums, it seems like everyone gets so frustrated that they can't play that they defecate themselves and explode.

Or maybe I don't care as much because I have a job and don't play all day? Not pointing figures, just saying. I've known high school kids that have absolutely no lives outside of games.

I have a full time job, so do most of the people expressing their frustration here. I'll agree, some of the comments have been pretty extreme but think about the situation. The two main saving graces of this game are at jeopardy. One being the very loyal small community, some of which have made their frustration public on these forums. Why not? It just goes to show how much they like and support this game.
The other thing keeping this game alive is the Brothel and from what I've seen, it isn't back up either. AOD was a major part of beta and testing, members very dedicated and loyal to this game. All around great community and the most populated server. Most of the time it's the ONLY populated server.
Taking all this into consideration and the fact that's it's Day 4 with no end in sight...come on, you have to admit this is getting absolutely rediculous.

At my job I find issues and fix them. It is only to easy to continue this outside of work. The problem here is a lack of communication. In anyones job/career when you do not communicate properly to a Customer the last thing they are going to say is **** happens.

People can get as angry as they want. It will only increase the visibility of this ongoing issue.
