Cavalry

how can cavalry be used effectively?
First I considered dragoons superior to swordsmen (like in Warcraft 3 where you replace your infantry by knights as soon as possible) but I noticed that they fall like flies.
Then I tried to use them in the flanks of infantry companies. I sometimes create 2 cavalry companies to chase fleeing enemies.

Cavalry are good mainly for their speed, so they're good at hunting down enemy companies.
Also, individually, heavy cavalry are the best units in the game, so leveling them up is always a plus if you can.

Ultimately, it depends on your kohans, and the map size. If you have like a trailblaze kohan, and its a big map, get a heavy cavalry by all means :)

They also gain a 4 AV bonus from open terrain, and light cavalry deals more damage than light infantry.

As I mentioned in the other thread (the one on anti-undead tactics), the speed of cavalry makes them ideal for chasing down routing companies. Since they can outrun most other companies, they can also be used to move past a fleeing company, turn and engage them head-on, from the direction they're trying to flee in. Keeping a company engaged like this (even an undead company or a company in supply) keeps them from resupplying.

Fight with them in open ground, maximizing their efficiency.

If you go all Calvary beware the enemy player that goes all stickman.

*for players new to Kohan that means Pikemen*

Pikemen slaughter calvary.

hmmm

I never bothered creating pikeman much. Are they really that effective even against the Shadow's cavalry?

TG_Melchior September 27th, 2004 08:44 AM

Pikemen confer a bonus called Cavalry Foe to their company. So if your front line or flank is made up of Pikemen, everyone in the company will gain a +5 Attack Value when attacking enemy cavalry units.

That's interesting.

So does that mean that a unit of swordsmen with pikemen on flank would be about as effective as a unit of all pikemen at taking out cavalry?

The swordsmen have a highter defense, higher hp, so is the only advantage the all pikemen stack has that it's cheaper on upkeep?

The mixed group would be more powerful, but the pure pikemen group is cheaper to buy, cheaper to upkeep, and moves faster.

Dragoons

Personally I like creating dragoons, with 2 different kind of healers, prefebly the ones that can attack long range (I think the Ceyah has one) This can lenghen their lives and will save you time to choose to either run away or stay and fight longer for more xp.
